Adecco, the UK's largest recruiter calls for the Chancellor to reduce the complexity around AWR in this week's Budget

As the industry anticipates some final changes to the Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) in this week’s Budget, Adecco, the UK’s largest recruiter, calls for the Chancellor to reduce the complexity around AWR and remove any unnecessary barriers to the employment of the temporary workforce.

Andy Smith, Head of Regulation and Employment Law, Adecco, comments ahead of the Budget on 23rd March:

“As unemployment levels continue to rise, the Chancellor cannot afford to ignore the desperate need to boost employment and support businesses in the creation of vital new roles. If the private sector is to go even part way in successfully providing employment opportunities to counteract the ongoing job losses we are already witnessing in the public sector, the Chancellor must use this Budget to introduce proactive and practical measures to support job creation.”

Protecting the temporary workforce through the smooth implementation of AWR

Smith continues:

“Removing any unnecessary barriers to the employment of temporary agency workers has to be a priority for the current government and I hope to see this reflected in the impending Budget. While the recruitment industry must continue to work closely with employers to educate and guide them through the impending Agency Workers Regulations (AWR), due to come into effect in October, any further measures that the government can introduce to reduce complexity are welcome. The temporary workforce represents a key area of growth in the labour market, as companies increasingly rely on the flexible approach they support. Government must ensure that these regulations are not simply perceived as an additional burden by employers, impacting negatively on the future employment of temporary workers.”
