alphafinancialjob.com Sees New Year Jobs Growth In Financial Sectors

Paula Reed, managing director of alphafinancialjob.com, the international job board talking about the UK job market, said in Loughborough yesterday:

‘Over the last fifteen years the financial services sector has outpaced other industries in terms of contribution to the UK’s GDP.  It currently generates approximately 40% of total GDP and usually, at the start of any New Year, we have come to expect a surge in the number of job vacancies.  This year, no one knew for sure what would happen, but we’re pleased to say that everyone, including the doom and gloom merchants have been left open-mouthed.’

Ms Reed continued, ‘if you add the number of supportive roles like IT, HR and Legal that are employed in the sector, this surge should send a refreshing message to everyone that the economy is starting to emerge from the recession.  The fourth quarter of 2010 showed a slow, but steady growth in Financial Sector jobs, but January has made all of us sit up and take notice.  At alphafinancialjobs.com we saw an increase of nearly 22% over the previous month.

It would be nice to think that our New Year offer contributed to this increase in advertised jobs, said Ms Reed and I’m sure it did encourage some recruiters to try our services.  However, my colleagues in the industry have indicated that they too have seen an increase, so either way, it’s great news all round.’

Ms Reed went on, ‘being a niche job board and operating exclusively in the financial sector, has given us the flexibility to make some dramatic changes to our advertising rates.  We have always thought that the small recruiter was at a disadvantage, so we decided to try to level the playing field.  Now, all our clients, irrespective of their size, can advertise all their vacancies for less than what it can cost to advertise just one job vacancy.

We may have ruffled a few feathers, but we genuinely believed it was time to do something that would help everyone in our industry to have a better year than the last one.  We’re also delighted that the offer benefits our jobseekers, they now have an even greater choice in career opportunities.’  For more information please visit: alphafinancialjobs.com.
