Antal Russia: Russia Keeps its Place in the Top Ten Leaders for Hiring Activity

Antal Russia: Russia Keeps its Place in the Top Ten Leaders for Hiring Activity

Russia Keeps its Place in the Top Ten Leaders for Hiring Activity

Despite the considerable changes in the list of world’s hiring leaders, Russia maintains seventh place, as well as keeps its place in the top three European leaders in recruitment activity, yielding only to Ukraine. Such results were obtained during the quarterly survey held by Antal Russia and Antal International in 47 countries.

Compared with March, the number of the companies actively hiring managerial-level staff has slightly decreased from 72% to 66%. At the same time the number of companies letting managers go has also gone down, by 7% during the second quarter.

“Though the traditional summer slump on the labour market was not so noticeable during the last 2 years, it still has a certain influence on hiring activity", - says Michael Germershausen, Antal Russia Managing Director. The other reason for a slight decrease in the number of the companies looking for managerial staff can be explained by the fact that companies closed a lot of positions during the post crisis period and are already staffed up. The main guideline in hiring staff now is quality, not quantity. The necessity of each new position is thoroughly evaluated and weighed up. To my mind the survey results confirm that the labour market has become more qualitative”.

On the international scale, Asian countries topped the chart with the strongest results; some 64% of companies are actively hiring managers – the leaders here are Philippines, Turkey and China. Thus the previous leaders – Northern and Southern America have dropped out of the running.

According to the survey results the highest hiring rates in Russia are observed in the banking sector, retail, FMCG and pharmaceutical companies, as well as in the IT and production sectors.

These key sectors mirror worldwide trends since the survey shows that on an international scale hiring activity is the highest in IT and medical sectors, banking and financial, service and media companies.

Ukrainian companies continue demonstrating the best results in hiring activity among European countries – the number of the companies opening managerial positions remains at 75%. Kazakhstan shows good results too – a 2% increase noted.

The methodology of the survey:

The Global Snapshot of Hiring and Firing Trends is a quarterly survey held by Antal Russia (part of FiveTen Group) and Antal International.

In the last survey, held in May-June 2011, 12 800 companies from 47 countries took part.

The number of respondents from the companies operating in Russia is 300. 58% of the respondents are directors, 39% - managers and 3% - specialists.

32% of the respondents represent companies with more than 500 employees, and 26% work for companies with 100-500 employees.
