Stephen Rookes of NES elected Chairman

New strategy and objectives unveiled by APSCo

The new Executive Committee of the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo) has elected Stephen Rookes (picture attached), Group Commercial & Legal Director of NES Group, as its new Chairman. Uzair Bawany, Group Managing Director of Contact Recruitment has been re-elected as Deputy Chairman.

Stephen Rookes joined NES, a leading technical and engineering staffing company, in 2006. Prior to that, he worked for global end user clients in the engineering sector, including GEC, BAE Systems and AMEC.

Stephen Rookes, the new APSCo Chairman, comments: “I feel honoured and privileged to be elected to this prestigious role. It’s a hugely challenging role, but one that I’m relishing getting stuck into.”

“The implementation of the Agency Workers Regulations in a manner that minimises risk for end user clients and recruiters will be a major challenge over the next 12 months and beyond. One of the key challenges will be determining which temps and contractors are within the scope of the Regulations and which are outside. APSCo will be playing a key role in helping recruiters make that assessment in a way that reduces the red tape burden.”

He adds: “The issue of pay when paid clauses, which APSCo highlighted this year in a major event, will also be a focus of my attention. This has been a real thorn in the side of the recruitment sector over the last few years, but one which under APSCo’s leadership has now been moved to the top of the agenda.

He has already proved his worth on the Executive Committee over the past year and has a rare insight into the recruitment sector from a client perspective. That client experience will be hugely valuable to APSCo and the professional staffing sector.”

(APSCo) elected its new Executive Committee for 2011 in April, which included eight new members who will be sitting on the Committee for the first time.
