Association of Executive Recruiters focuses on leadership qualities The Association of Executive Recruiters, the group within the Recruitment and Employment Confederation that focuses on the executive search market, recently held its first meeting of the year, which explored the concept of leadership. Penny de Valk, Chief Executive of the “Individuals with the ability to inspire and motivate, and those with high levels of self awareness are particularly highly value,” Penny explained. She continued, “The catch is most leaders aren’t born, they are made. Professional experience, investment in education and development, as well as a level of self confidence established through previous successes and failures, all contribute to the chemistry of what a good leader looks like.” Commenting on the meeting, David Winterburn, AER Chair said: “As talent spotters, it’s essential that we as head-hunters question the very essence of the quality that is most commonly sought for our placements. In order to provide a rigorous and quality service to our clients, we need to stay ahead of the game, so hearing from experts such as Penny de Valk is essential.” He concluded:“The debate that Penny’s discussion stimulated was a welcome addition to a meeting that also focussed on the Lord Davies review and current labour market trends. We look forward to working with her in the future on issues surrounding leadership.” |
