BCL Legal Reports a 30% Rise in In-house Legal Jobs for Q1 2011

With the economic recovery still eluding many firms and businesses, BCL Legal - one of the leading legal recruitment consultancies outside London – is pleased to report a jump of over 30% in the number of in-house legal jobs that it has placed in the first quarter of 2011 when compared to 2010. The figure is also a 40% increase on the same period in 2009.

The company, which operates from its offices in Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Reading and Bristol, attributes the increase to a number of factors, including; companies making the decision to utilise more in-house expertise rather than always relying of private practice, the ending of the main banking crisis and more general business confidence in key sectors such as manufacturing.

Predictions from BCL Legal are that the rest of this year will start to balance out with further single percentage point rises over the next couple of quarters.

Mark Levine, director at BCL Legal and head of its In-House Team said; ‘There is no doubting that the in-house market has been hit hard over the last couple of years. Businesses had to make tough decisions and most inflicted virtual employment freezes. However, we did start to see a pick up from mid-2010 onwards and this spike is a reflection of that. Mark concluded; ‘It’s a welcome result and one that we hope will continue.’
