BSI APPOINTS SIR DAVID BROWN AS CHAIRMAN DESIGNATE OF BSI GROUP

The British Standards Institution (BSI) today announced that Sir David Brown has been named as the Deputy Chairman and Chairman Designate of BSI Group with immediate effect.

Sir David Brown will take over from BSI’s current Group Chairman, Sir David John KCMG, who will retire on 30th March 2012.

Howard Kerr, Chief Executive at BSI, said: “BSI is delighted to appoint Sir David Brown as the Chairman Designate of BSI Group. Since joining the BSI Board in 2010 as a Non-executive Director, he has contributed enormously to the future direction of the company. He brings a huge amount of experience from his role as Chairman of Motorola Ltd and has a deep passion for and appreciation of the benefits of standards. I look forward to working with him over the coming years.”

Sir David Brown, Deputy Chairman and Chairman Designate, said: “It will be an honour and a privilege to succeed Sir David John, who has given such distinguished leadership to BSI over so many years. I very much look forward to working with the Chief Executive and the Board as BSI continues to go from strength to strength.”

Sir David Brown joined the Board as a Non-executive Director in May 2010.

A Chartered Engineer by training and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Sir David was, from 2003 to 2004, President of the Institution of Electrical Engineers and, from 1999 to 2000, President of the Federation of the Electronics Industry.

He was the founding President of the Chartered Quality Institute, during which time it secured Royal Charter status.
