CMI Report: SHL comment on workers' decisions

Today the CMI has reported that nearly three quarters of workers are making ‘ill-advised’ decisions. The report reveals that 74 percent of employees regularly make decisions at work that they feel unqualified to make, while 55 percent don't think their managers possess significant ability or the right levels of confidence to do their job.

“These results are of course concerning. It is important to delve into why managers are lacking in competency and confidence. What happened during the recruitment and succession planning processes? Companies need to examine their processes for recruiting and  promoting staff into management positions. Good succession planning involves identifying and nurturing talent, which ensures a company has the right management in place to inspire and motivate staff – it’s all about knowing what your employees can do and have the potential to achieve, i.e.having People Intelligence.”

“Without People Intelligence, a company risks creating an environment of unfulfilled employees, which in turn affects performance. We recently commissioned a survey into motivation levels within the UK workforce, which found that 44 per cent of employees felt unmotivated in their job, yet it also highlighted the effect a good manager can have on motivating staff.”
