Competition fierce as graduates seek work

Business minded graduates are considering enterprise as an alternative route as job vacancies are scarce

University students are preparing for graduation as the exam season draws to a close. However, the job market they are entering is tough, with youth unemployment already at 895,000. In addition, studies are suggesting that around half of UK businesses will be putting a freeze on the number of graduates they employ this year.

A bleak picture was created by rising underlying trends in unemployment over the last year, not just among young people but also others including the over fifties and women. Meanwhile, threats of forthcoming strike action highlight widespread discontent in the public sector.

We have a number of young entrepreneurs who have abandoned the hunt for a job and chosen to become masters of their own destinies. Some are now heading up multimillion pound businesses, whilst others are already being described as rising stars.
