Cooper Lomaz gears up for offshore wind engineering

Cooper Lomaz gears up for offshore wind engineering

Over the course of the next three to five years, there will be a huge demand for skilled mechanical and electrical engineers to work on the offshore wind farms that are to be built off the coast of Norfolk. Whilst it is generally accepted that these engineers will need to be trained in the technologies that are specific to wind turbines, the bigger question is “how are the wind farm operators going to find and establish a Norfolk based workforce that could number nearly 1000 individuals by 2016?”

Cooper Lomaz Recruitment has taken up this challenge, and is already establishing an offshore wind engineering team to work with the offshore wind farm operators and their turbine suppliers. With over twenty years experience in engineering recruitment for companies in all the region’s key industry sectors, Chairman Jane Lovell believes the organisation is ideally placed to fulfil these demanding recruitment assignments, saying:

“We have a detailed knowledge of the engineering employment marketplace  in Eastern England, and our e-news bulletins ensure we are in constant communication with the region’s engineers.

“We have been receiving expressions of interest from a growing number of mechanical and electrical engineers who wish to explore the opportunities in Norfolk and Suffolk offered by offshore wind for some time now.  As we near the successful completion of our first offshore wind energy recruitment assignment, we have a new focus on renewable offshore energy.”

She added: “ It is encouraging to note that the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership team has already stated that it will be putting considerable emphasis on renewable energy in its initial business plan”.

Cooper Lomaz’s Emma Painter is leading the offshore wind engineering recruitment team, and she and her colleagues intend to be present at many of the supply chain conferences and seminars and renewable energy events that will take place around East Anglia in the coming months.
