DurhamBusiness School’s new appointment strengthens its accounting programmes

Durham Business School (DBS) has appointed Professor David McCollum-Oldroyd as its new Professor of Accounting.

Professor McCollum-Oldroyd will be working on research projects with accounting staff members and have a strategic role in developing a robust accounting discipline. He will be a co-director of a new research centre, along with Professor Jim Haslam. David will also be involved in the delivery and development of Durham Business School’s accounting programmes, BSc Accounting (in association with KPMG and ICAEW), and the new Masters in Accounting (MAcc) programme.

Professor McCollum-Oldroyd worked in the accountancy profession for over ten years, including five with KPMG, before moving into the academic field. Prior to joining Durham Business School, he was Professor of Accounting at Newcastle University. His research is mainly focused on understanding the importance of accountancy in our society by exploring its interactions within cultures and organisations. He is Chair of the Technical Committee of the British Accounting and Finance Association's (BAFA) Financial Accounting and Reporting Special Interest Group (FARSIG), and a member of the International Association of Accounting Education and Research's (IAAER) IFRS Consult Committee.

Professor Rob Dixon, DBS Dean and Professor of Management Accounting said: “Durham Business School always strives to provide top quality research and the best education to its students, thanks to its renowned academics. Professor McCollum-Oldroyd’s extensive experience in the accountancy sector will be a valuable addition to the Accounting group. I look forward to working with him to develop our School’s accounting programmes.”
