Edinburgh’s Emma excels as UK’s top recruitment student

Emma Clark has made the grade by becoming the top student in the recently held Recruitment and Employment Confederation’s Certificate in Recruitment Practice (CertRP). Emma beat 165 other recruitment professionals across the UK to become top student and also attained a Distinction for her examination result.

Emma, who has been working as a consultant support for Core-asset Consulting based in Melville Street, Edinburgh, is a relative newcomer to recruitment. Last year, she graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a degree in psychology and business and joined the company in October.

As a result of passing the Certificate, Emma is now embarking as a trainee consultant with Core-asset Consulting which specialises in the financial services and investment banking sectors. Her ambition with the company is to work her way up to being a senior consultant which will enable her to take the Diploma in Recruitment Practice, the professional level qualification offered by the Institute of Recruitment Professionals (IRP).

Emma, who is also a member of the Institute of Recruitment Professionals, which is part of the REC, said of the Certificate course and being its top student: “I was so pleased to get a Distinction but it was a massive shock when I got the telephone call to say I was the top student.

“Completing and passing the Certificate has given me excellent knowledge of the recruitment industry before I become a trainee consultant. In particular, I found the areas covering legislation relating to the recruitment industry very challenging.

“However, being a psychology student, I enjoyed the sections focusing on relationship building as this reflects my keen interest in people within a business environment.”

Commenting on Emma’s achievement, Judith Armatage, the REC’s Director of Professional Development, said: “Her Distinction in the examination so soon after she joined her company just shows the calibre of talent which is now coming into the recruitment industry.

“Emma is so focused on delivering the best results for her clients and candidates while at the same time, is totally committed to furthering her career so that she can continue to shine and deliver results for Core-asset Consulting. She has definitely proved herself an asset to them.”

Last month, the REC’s Institute of Recruitment Professionals launched its new look qualifications including both the Certificate and Diploma which are designed to develop and enhance the capability of professional recruiters. They will equip them with the knowledge and skills they now need to meet the rapidly changing demands of clients and candidates.

The courses for both Certificate and Diploma start in September and November respectively. For more information about the IRP’s qualifications, go to www.rec-irp.uk.com/career-development/IRPQualifications
