Fastest growing company in Wales builds team with new appointment

Fast Growth 50 winners, Smart Solutions Recruitment, is building on its on-going success with the senior level appointment of a new managing director for general recruitment in Wales.

Phil Worthing, from Usk, joins Smart with more than ten years’ experience in the recruitment sector, which he gained through various roles including establishing and running his own recruitment firm, Abacus Recruitment.

Following a stint as the UK’s youngest professional golfer at the age of 16, Mr Worthing worked as sales director for Acorn Recruitment before founding Abacus in 1999.

During his seven years with the company, he saw it grow to 14 branches across the UK, before selling it in 2007 to Cordant Group PLC, after which he stayed on to oversee the transition as Managing Director for a further nine months.

At Smart, he will be responsible for all its branches in Wales, which contribute 50% of Smart’s current revenue, and will help roll-out the company’s growth plans for 2011

Mr Worthing said: “I have always enjoyed working in the recruitment sector and, when I was approached by Nathan, I was immediately impressed by Smart’s innovative and refreshing approach.

Smart was set up in 2007 by CEO Nathan Bowles as an alternative to the way many recruitment agencies are run and offers a number of value-added services not offered by traditional recruitment agencies including on-site recruitment support and management.

It operates in a number of specialist fields including waste and recycling, call centre, food production and manufacturing, as well as permanent recruitment. It has 14 offices across the UK, with 75 employees, processing 1,700 timesheets every week, and a job seeker database of more than 10,000.  It aims to open further offices in 2011.
