According to the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service, young women are being paid more on average per hour than their male counterparts.
The figures show that women between the ages of 22 and 29 are currently earning an average hourly wage of £10 an hour, compared with just under £10 an hour for men.
As an IT graduate employer, that strongly supports the advancement of women within the workplace, FDM Group is thrilled with these latest results.

This latest research follows similarly positive news for women working within the IT industry.
A study, conducted by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), revealed that women in junior roles within the sector are now receiving a higher wage than men in similar positions.
The data showed that the average salary of a female junior IT executive in the UK has reached £20,730, compared to the £20,686 wage that men receive at the same level.
Female salaries were also shown to rise by 2.5% year on year, compared to a climb of just 0.5% for male IT staff.
As the UK’s largest IT graduate employer, FDM Group is proud not only to be exceeding this average salary by providing all of its IT Consultants with a starting salary of between £21,000 -£23,000, but the company also prides itself on its commitment to retaining its female workforce.
FDM Chief Operating Officer, Sheila Flavell, said, “At FDM we believe that these latest employment figures need to be used to entice women to consider IT careers, which is an extremely important part of what we do. However we cannot rely on fresh recruits alone to guarantee that a strong female presence within the sector continues to grow. We also need to ensure that women feel supported and valued in this largely male dominated industry.”
With this aim in mind, FDM Group recently launched its latest female focused initiative.
The “FDM Female Champions” scheme has been created to allow inspiring female figures within the company to mentor and support female FDM employees.
Chosen Female Champions, who must apply for the role, will offer ad hoc advice to mentees as well as holding scheduled drop-in sessions and networking events.
