FDM Group launches training and employment programme for US veterans

International IT services provider, FDM Group, is launching a new veterans programme, aimed at providing post-service training and employment for the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

The esteemed graduate employer has long been working to overcome the catch-22 hurdle of qualifications without experience, that so many University leavers currently face.

Chief Operating Officer of FDM Group, Sheila Flavell, said, “Here at FDM we realise how difficult it is for graduates, especially those seeking to break into the IT sector, to land a paid role without experience. Our aim is to bridge this gap between academia and employment, aiding graduates with valuable skills as well as paid experience.“

The company is renowned for its award-winning graduate programme, which provides graduates with a unique combination of industry centred training and real commercial experience.

Successful applicants to the firm’s graduate scheme are provided with circa 12-16 weeks of technical training before being placed onsite within one or more of FDM’s 200 prestigious clients for a minimum of two years. These include some of the world’s largest financial and banking institutions.

With headquarters in the UK and offices throughout Europe and Asia, FDM opened the doors to its new NYC Training Academy, located in JP Morgan’s former Penthouse on 14 Wall Street, in April of this year.

Within a short space of time, FDM signed a lease to nearly double the size of the office and Academy spaces and looks forward to assisting many more American graduates in their quest to kick-start their IT careers.

In a bid to aid ex-servicemen and women FDM is tailoring its graduate scheme, which has supported over 3,000 graduates to date, by launching a veteran programme across the tri-state area.

The FDM VP of North America, Brandt Rousseaux, said, “As a 20 year veteran of the US Coast Guard I am incredibly pleased to compliment our Academy Programme for undergraduates with an equally important programme for qualified military members who have served the US honourably and many times with great sacrifice. These men and women are bright, committed and eager to start the next chapter of their lives and FDM is keen to help facilitate that transition.”

The firm kicked off its initiative on November 8th at the U.S.S. Intrepid with the “Be A Hero, Hire A Hero” Veterans Career Fair and is committed to welcoming a significant percentage of veteran applicants onto its programme by the end of 2012.

The specially designed scheme aims to provide veterans with the real world training needed to launch an IT career, as well as securing them a placement with one of the major financial institutions in New York.

FDM is also delighted to be sponsoring the “Wall Street Rocks For Veterans” event, which will take place on December 6th at the Irving Center with proceeds going to The Wounded Warrior Project and ReserveAid.

Some of the company’s key clients are among the list of sponsors who are firmly committed to helping those who proudly served the US.

The firm looks forward to working closely with veterans through this programme and is calling for ex-servicemen and women who are interested in launching IT careers to apply to the scheme.  Rousseaux added, “It is fitting that the very first FDM Consultant to be placed from our Wall Street office was a former Marine. We are very energised by this new venture and look forward to receiving many applications from these courageous men and women. Our clients are equally excited and have added to the momentum that is inevitable with a programme such as this.”
