FDM Group speaks out against latest graduate employment figures

FDM Group, has spoken out against the revelation that that 20% of graduates are currently earning less than the median wage of those educated to A-level standard.

The latest labour market statistics, published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), have revealed that one in five graduates are currently on the same wage as those that chose to end their education prior to University.

Significantly, the number of graduates in high skilled jobs has also taken a dip with only 56.6% of graduates working within these roles in 2010, compared to 68% in 1993.

FDM Group has been working to ensure that graduates are offered a root into high skilled and well paid careers for over 20 years and is outraged at these latest findings.

FDM CEO Rod Flavell said, “These latest employment figures are simply shocking considering that graduates have invested their time, hard work and money into gaining degrees in order to improve their career prospects. As the UK’s largest IT graduate employer, we want to assure IT graduates that if they are searching for highly skilled jobs within the IT sector then FDM can still offer them a root into these.”

FDM Group is recruiting 1,000 graduates this year and continues to offer an impressive number of graduates the opportunity to embark on careers within a lucrative and stable industry.

In fact according to IT recruitment website CWJobs, the number of IT jobs increased by 18% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2011.

Average wages within this industry are also on the up and according to research conducted by recruitment firm Greythorn, salaries for IT and telecoms professionals have risen by 7.5% in the past year.

FDM’s graduate programme offers university leavers the chance to branch into this rewarding field by training them within specialist and highly skilled areas before placing them within one or more of its 200 blue chip clients for a minimum of two-years.

Not only does this provide graduates with the skills and experience needed to forge successful careers, but graduates are also provided with competitive salaries and much-needed security throughout the early stages of their careers.

And as the 11th fastest growing company in Europe with opportunities in the UK, Germany, Switzerland the US and Hong Kong, the employment prospects FDM can offer its graduate IT Consultants are certainly impressive.
