FDM Group urges graduates not to overlook opportunities within SMEs

According to a recent survey conducted by business services provider Iconnyx, the vast majority of graduate jobseekers are overlooking job opportunities within SMEs, despite the clear benefits to working within these organisations.

The study was conducted across thirty recruitment consultancies in the UK and found that just 3% of these agencies believed that graduates favoured smaller organisations over larger companies.

FDM Group Marketing Manager, Nabila Salem, said, “What a lot of graduates don’t realise is that gaining employment within an SME can often be more beneficial to their careers. Here at FDM career progression can be rapid as hard work is more easily recognisable and opportunities continue to grow with the company. Personally, I became the Global Marketing Manager of FDM within four years of graduating.”

The ‘Best Technical Graduate Employer’ is renowned for its award-winning programme, which allows graduates to bridge the gap between university and employment.

Successful candidates are provided with 12-16 weeks of technical training before being placed offsite within one or more of FDM’s 200 clients including HSBC, Credit Suisse, UBS and Virgin Media, for minimum of two years.

Importantly, despite the fact that the company has experienced phenomenal growth in recent years, the firm is proud to be an SME and maintains that the company’s structure allows it to support its graduate IT Consultants effectively throughout all stages of the programme.

FDM IT Consultant Rajiv Vadgama, “At FDM you are given a lot of support when training right through to when you’re working offsite, even if you are placed internationally. Therefore, the FDM graduate scheme really is a great programme for graduates from start to finish.”

In addition, a whopping 68% of the graduates questioned for the Iconnyx survey stated that they would take the first job role offered to them, rather than the right one.

The UK’s largest IT graduate employer, firmly believes in offering graduates the opportunity to launch their careers within the field of IT and finance and has recruited over 3,000 graduates to date.

FDM Recruitment Manager, Madeleine Field, said, “At FDM we specialise in supporting graduates from a range of disciplines in their quest to kick start their IT careers. We would like to assure graduates who are seeking to break into the IT sector that they do not need to settle for roles that won’t benefit their careers. There are opportunities out there.”
