FDM Group welcomes introduction of £1bn government scheme for young unemployed

The UK’s largest IT graduate employer, FDM Group has welcomed the government’s plan to introduce a new £1bn initiative that will “provide hope” for thousands of young people.

Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, has revealed a programme which will offer subsidised work and training placements to thousands of young people across the UK.

As the government falls under intense pressure to combat youth unemployment, the scheme will offer employers subsidies worth £2,275 to train and employ 160,000 18-24 year olds.

FDM Group CEO, Rod Flavell, said, “During a period of economic down turn, a large proportion of companies will slash their training budgets in order to reduce outgoings. The fact that the government is recognising this whilst simultaneously addressing the shockingly high levels of youth unemployment in this country can only signal positive change.”

The ‘Best Technical Graduate Recruiter’ of 2010 firmly believes in supporting university leavers in their quest to kick-start their careers and is recruiting 1,000 graduates this year alone.

The graduate employer recognises the importance of training for young people and already offers its graduate recruits 12-16 weeks of industry centred training at the start of their employment.

Although trainees must fund their own living expenses throughout this time, the training costs are covered by the firm as part of its two-year employment contract, which also involves work placements within some of the world’s most prestigious organsiations.

The company, which recently ranked in 9th place of TheJobCrowd’s Top 50 Employers, has supported over 3,000 graduates to date through this unique programme and firmly believes in the value of graduate recruitment.

Rod Flavell went on to say, “We would urge businesses to seriously consider applying to take part in this scheme. As a graduate recruiter that has been training and employing graduates for over 21 years, we strongly believe that young people can contribute greatly to the success of a business. Ultimately, embedding talented young people within a significant amount of organisations could also have an incredibly positive impact across all industries and therefore the economy as a whole.”
