2010’s most sought-after IT staff revealed

A list of the UK’s most in-demand IT jobs of 2010 has been released by specialist IT recruitment consultancy IntaPeople.

The top 10 list is largely dominated by developers, with C# and .NET professionals topping the bill, closely followed by Java J2EE and PHP roles.

Interestingly, the senior-level position of Head of IT also made it on to the list, suggesting that a high proportion of UK firms are looking to tighten their IT processes during 2010.

The research took into account the most frequently advertised IT positions for the first six months of the year. The full list of top ten IT roles included:

C# / ASP.NET Developer
Java J2EE Developer
PHP Developer
Business Analyst
Data Administrator
Software Engineer
Test Analyst
SharePoint Developer
SQL Developer
Head of IT

Phil Handley, Operations Director at IntaPeople, commented: “What has been clear during the first half of this year is that a significant number of firms are turning to their IT departments to uncover new ways of reducing operational costs and writing more business.

“Given the enduring popularity of C# and Java among UK businesses, the top of the list is not a massive surprise. The large volume of senior appointments is possibly the biggest revelation, and indicates that firms are willing to make grand scale changes to put themselves on a firm footing as the economy picks up.”
