2010 international employer award launched for age-friendly companies
TAEN – The Age and Employment Network and AARP, the US-based not for profit 40 million membership organisation for the over-50s, have launched the 2010 International Innovative Employer Award in the UK. The award recognises employers across the world with a strong track record of innovative policies and practices that address issues relevant to older workers.
The award is open to all employers headquartered outside the US as well as foreign subsidiaries and operations of US-based companies. Details on how to submit an entry for the award are available on the TAEN website at http://taen.org.uk/aarp and entries must be received by 24 April 2010.
Entrants are judged on factors such as their workplace culture, training and career progression opportunities, recruitment and alternative work options. Past UK winners include Agewell-Sandwell Primary Care Trust, BT, Centrica, and Domestic & General Services Ltd.

“Recruiting and retaining older workers is key to businesses and the economy as we move out of recession and address the effects of an ageing population.
“2010 is the third year that we have worked with AARP on these prestigious awards and we are keen to receive submissions from large and small organisations highlighting their best practice in providing jobs and career development opportunities for older workers.”
