ABERDEEN RECRUITMENT FIRM WARNS AGAINST CARELESS USE

OF SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES

Aberdeen-based recruitment specialist LA Recruitment has warned that careless use of social networking sites such as Facebook or Bebo could have a detrimental effect on future job prospects, as well as creating difficulties for existing employees.

The advice comes in the wake of the case of a worker in Australia who is under investigation by his employers over alleged comments on his Facebook page.

LA Recruitment Director Mhairi Preston said: “The internet makes it very easy to find out background information about prospective employees and some employers now use this as an additional check on top of references.

"We would caution against making potentially defamatory remarks about an employer or negative comments about your job, which could have consequences if seen by a boss or another member of staff.

“If someone has a social networking page they have decided to make public – so it can therefore be seen by anyone – we would advise them to think about the kind of photos they are posting on their sites and the kind of comments they leave.
