Practical support will ease the pain, says REC Academy for Business

AWD Next Steps – Practical support will ease the pain, says REC Academy for Business

As well as working with Government on the official guidance for the new Agency Worker Regulations, the REC is developing a suite of practical tools to help recruiters implement the necessary changes and seize new opportunities.

Recent workshops and focus groups with agencies and their clients have pinpointed specific measures and supporting services to ease the implementation process.

Over the coming year, these will include AWD training workshops, specific research on client awareness through the REC’s Industry Research Unit, mentoring sessions for agencies and clients, model contracts and a comprehensive AWD Toolkit for agencies.

Commenting on the next steps, Sam Strange, Director of Business Support within the REC’s Academy for Business says: “In conjunction with the REC’s high-profile lobbying campaign, work has been going on behind the scenes to develop to kind of practical tools that will help recruiters get to grips with potentially complex regulations. As we shift into ‘implementation mode’, our priority is to help recruiters plan ahead and engage with their clients and workers. Implementing equal treatment measures will be a challenge.

"It is also a huge opportunity for recruiters to demonstrate their professionalism, awareness and ability to add real value to employers."

The REC’s free and impartial legal helpline is already fielding an increasing number of calls on the new regulations. The REC’s toolkit will include regularly updated FAQs, client briefings and standard presentation slides. The aim is to provide recruiters with the practical tools to implement the regulations and to work with clients in the run-up to October 2011.

The increasing awareness level amongst employers has meant that an important priority for agencies is to raise awareness amongst client-facing staff. One of the key aims of the Institute of Recruitment Professionals (IRP) will be to disseminate the latest updates to individual recruitment consultants within membership.
