IN LEGAL RECRUITMENT
CONSULTANT AGENDAS AMONG KEY GRIPES IN LEGAL RECRUITMENT
The founders of a new online legal job board have revealed the countless industry frustrations which led them to launch their venture.
Last month, Tim Bates and Charles Magill launched comparelegaljobs.com, promising to shake up outmoded elements of the legal recruitment market and respond to feedback gathered from employers and candidates during 25 years in professional services recruitment. The site already has law firms such as DLA Piper, Dickinson Dees and SJ Berwin on board.
According to the research, law firms and candidates across the country share many of the same grievances about traditional recruitment methods, with both parties highlighting the issue of consultants who focus on their own agenda. The main complaints are summarised below.
Top five employer frustrations:-
Too many phone calls and emails regarding inappropriate candidates
Excessive hire cost per candidate
Generic mailouts from consultants that merely waste precious time and resources
Lack of relevant knowledge about the employer within many consultancies
Insufficient focus on diversity protocols
Top five candidate frustrations:-
Feeling that their requirements are secondary to the consultant’s own agenda
Lack of control over their job search and unable to contact employers directly
A perception that consultants are too focused on earning fees and bonuses
Having only a restricted view of the jobs market
Believing that consultants are not genuinely interested in ‘me’
Bates said: “For too long, employers and applicants have had to stomach excessive prices, shoddy service and a one-size-fits-all attitude to their recruitment search.
“We are confident that our alternative will provide a real way forward. We have had a great response from a number of firms and from lawyer forums across the country. Now is the time for change.”
Comparelegaljobs.com features services such as an in-house recruitment team, job comparison tool and a no commission structure, while employers receive a dedicated microsite and full access to diversity data.
