HR PROFESSIONALS COUNT CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND BASIC SALARY AS PARAMOUNT

hr moves, part of the career moves group recently conducted a successful HR engagement survey with its network from the media, FMCG, retail, technology and financial services industries.

The level of responsibility of the respondents ranged from Director to Administrator, with 90% of the HR practitioners who took part being HR Business Partner level and below.

The survey results accentuated that HR practitioners across the board are interested in a good base salary and career progression.

In the current climate, basic salary is taking the front position as a key factor in people’s decision about where to work.  However, all the work done by companies to prepare varied, interesting and flexible reward packages is not unappreciated as incentive/bonus schemes, holidays, healthcare schemes and flexible benefits were close contenders for second place.

Considering the tough environment that HR personnel have found themselves in, it’s encouraging that 66% of the HR professionals who answered the survey, constructed to gain an insight into how HR personnel feel rewarded and appreciated in their roles, stated that they were supported in their career development by their companies.

The anonymous survey which received 180 replies from human resources professionals, also hi-lighted that vast majority of HR Professionals that responded to the survey had specifically chosen HR as their career as opposed to falling into their role by chance. This could be interpreted a clear commitment to the HR Function in the company.

While 20% of respondents remained ambivalent about why they chose their current role and employer, 70% felt clear about what was important in terms of the positive aspects of their job choice and employer.  Career Progression was very important as were the company, sector and brand.

With regards to other employees’ perception of their HR colleagues’ role within the company; it is positive that 64% of all those who gave a definitive answer, thought HR Professionals were perceived as business partners, and essential to the company.

The survey has presented more lines of enquiry and hr moves looks forward to repeating it annually.

The prize draw reward for those who took part in the survey was an iPad 2, won by Ben Farmer of Aegis Media. Ben was delighted to receive the prize and said hr moves' survey, "stood out against other surveys I have filled in, as the questions were punchy and it was clear that hr moves understand the motivators for getting into HR and staying in it," A 2nd prize of vouchers went to Andrew Cini of Sony Music.

career moves group, Managing Director, Caroline Foote says, “We were thrilled that there was such a tremendous response to the survey. We hope the feed back is of interest and we look forward to making the survey an annual event."
