McAdam King unveils plan for significant expansion

Scottish recruitment firm McAdam King today announced a far-reaching expansion programme which will see significant investment in additional staff and new offices.

The firm is to open a base in Aberdeen in the first part of 2012 and will increase its workforce by 50 per cent as it seeks to capitalise on opportunities in the Oil & Gas, Manufacturing and Food & Drink sectors.

The expansion will also cater for growing interest in McAdam King’s Business Psychology division.

McAdam King has already begun interviewing candidates for new roles based in their Glasgow and Stirling offices and will begin recruitment in Aberdeen once agreement for premises in the city has been finalised.

Colin McAdam, a founding director of McAdam King, said: “People have asked us why we are expanding now. The UK economy appears to be on the brink of secondary recession and unemployment is at its highest level since the early 1990s.

“However, we see huge opportunities for growth in certain areas of the Scottish economy. The jobs market in areas such as energy and renewables remains extremely vibrant and employers are increasingly turning to us to find the right candidates for specialist roles.

“We are investing a six-figure sum in this programme over the next three years and we are excited about the possibilities this investment opens up.

“We have enjoyed considerable success in recruiting candidates for firms in the Oil & Gas sector and expanding our operation in Aberdeen will allow us to capitalise on that.

“We also see scope for growth in Manufacturing and Food & Drink where many firms are addressing the recession by being increasingly focused on acquiring the right skills. This creates an opportunity for our business and we will be hiring staff to help us exploit these openings.

McAdam said the new Aberdeen office may set a pattern for expansion into new centres.

He added: “We already are committed to opening in Aberdeen and we are investigating the possibility of opening other centres in Scotland and beyond.

“The market for our Business Psychology services – leadership and management development for instance - is currently far stronger in England than it is here. There’s clearly a growth opportunity in Scotland and we may choose to capitalise on that with further expansion south of the border.”

McAdam King currently employs 16 people at offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh. It is anticipated the headcount will rise to at least 24 staff during the course of the next three years.
