MORE NEEDS BE DONE TO ENCOURAGE ENGINEERING AS A CAREER SAYS RECRUITER
A survey undertaken by engineering and technical recruiter CBSbutler has shown that almost half (48%) of employers in the sector feel that the Government should invest more into the school curriculum to encourage young people to take up careers in engineering. Almost a third (30%) believed that incentives should be offered to employers to take on apprentices.
According to a report by the Engineering and Technology board, the UK needs 60,000 engineers over the next seven years. Population changes mean that the number of school leavers will decline by 16% by 2019, leaving a reduced talent pool.
Commenting on the results, David Leyshon, Managing Director of CBSbutler said:
It is crucial that more is done to encourage our young people into engineering and technical careers if the UK is to remain competitive.”
