Recruitment trade associations - how many?

@paulatvoyager | 25/01/2012
With so many specialist recruiters can one body service them all?

Whilst some simply seem to be a vehicle to make money - in general terms, we may need more specialist bodies not less??

Those who moan about too many trade assocations, are normally whinge about there being to many tv channels, or too many X recruiters ruining the market in "there town/city/market".

Recruitment is a billion pound industry and having one representive organisation for an industry is not going to reflect all variety that is on offer in such an innovative and entrepreneurial sector.

Trade assocations main function is to represent our industry to external stakeholders and foster interal discussions on current standards and future development of the sector. To say that REC, APSCo or Institute of Recruiters are going to be able to represent the diversity of views from a headhunter in the City of London to a high street recruiter in Aberdeen.

A diversity of views from trade assocations can only help foster a dialogue in our industry and allow great professional development that may mean one day the REC or APSCo can be viewed the sames as ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, the Law Society or RICS.
