The EU Parliament Has Approved The Temporary (Agency) Workers Directive
The European Parliament's Employment and Social Affairs Committee has approved the Council Common Position on the Temporary (Agency) Workers Directive without any further amendment.
It had been believed that renewed deadlock over the UK's working time opt-out would hamper the progress of the Directive this year but this now looks unlikely. With the final European Parliament vote on the Directive is due to take place on 21 October 2008 the Directive could become law this year. The UK will then have three years within which to implement regulations but it is likely that new regulations will be pushed through as quickly as possible to become law by autumn 2009.
