Points Based System Comes Into Force
The Government is about to implement the most radical change in immigration law for the past 30 years with the introduction of the new points-based system and employer sponsorship system for business immigration. Under the new system, if an organisation wants to employ someone who is not a citizen of the European Economic Area, they will need to hold a Sponsor Licence and be registered as a Sponsor with the UK Border Agency (UKBA). This can be a complex and time-consuming process. Licences will only be issued to organisations that can demonstrate to UKBA they have sound and robust HR systems in place. Organisations that fail to fulfil the duties will be removed from the Sponsorship register. Source:Blake Lapthorn.
