Responding to the Home Office announcement on ID cards for airport workers and the fact that this will initially be piloted in a few airports, REC Director of External Relations, Tom Hadley says
Safe recruitment is an increasing priority across a number of sectors. Recruitment agencies play a pivotal role in verifying the identity of workers and ensuring that the necessary checks have taken place. ID cards may help with this task but it is essential that the implementation is properly thought through. Recruitment agencies will remember the unmitigated shambles when CRB checks were first introduced and limiting the airport ID scheme to a few pilots initially is not necessarily a bad thing.
Identity checking requirements and effective vetting of candidates are key elements of the RECs professional code of practice that all REC members must abide to. The REC External Relations team is represented on a number of Home Office committees which ensures that the ongoing views and concerns of members are taken forward on a regular basis.
