Avril comes top in UK recruitment qualification

Avril Jenkins of Carlisle Managed Solutions has distinguished herself by becoming the top student in a qualification run by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), the trade association for the UKs private recruitment industry.

She attained a Distinction in the Certificate in Recruitment Practice, a national qualification for recruitment consultants, which provides them with a comprehensive knowledge of all the skills they require.

This is the second time in two years that Carlisle has provided the top student in the Certificate, demonstrating the companys commitment to its recruiters in encouraging them to take the REC qualification.

Avril is one of two consultants who work in a job share capacity on the commercial desk at Luton Borough Council and Bedfordshire County Council where Carlisle Managed Solutions runs the Neutral Vendor Contract.

After she completed her Arts degree in her native Ireland, Avril moved to the UK where she first worked in hospitality and financial services. She then got into recruitment through a friend who was working for a new agency that was setting up in the UK.

She thought it would be a challenge and now she has been in the industry for 13 years, seven of which were spent in London working in accounting and finance recruitment, before she moved to St Albans.

Working in a job share at Luton Borough Council has enabled Avril to balance her work commitments with bringing up her two young children aged five and two and a half.

I have been in my current job for the past three years and really enjoy it because it allows me to focus on delivering a high service level to our clients and to develop strong relationships with all our suppliers, she said.

The Certificate course, Avril admitted, was quite challenging with her family commitments. I found it difficult to try and set some time aside for studying. I have to admit my children watched far more TV than I would like in September to allow me to revise!
