Recruiters Invited To Learn How To Get To Grips With UK's New Points-based System

Anyone who employs non-EU migrant workers will want to attend the 15 January seminar by immigration experts The Smooth Group.

The UK's new five tier points based immigration system (PBS) is now being rolled out and the launch of Tier 2 and Tier 5 at the end of November signified the end of the UK work permit scheme and the Two Year Working Holiday Scheme. Employers are now required to register with the UK Border Agency to gain a licence to employ non-EU members on work permits. Failure to do so could put employers at risk, and their ability to hire skilled migrants will be impacted.

It is essential that anyone who employs non-EU migrant workers is fully aware of how the changes to the immigration system in the UK will impact on their business," said Hanneke Oosthuizen, immigration advisor at The Smooth Group. "Companies must realise that if they don't comply with the new system, they put both themselves and employees on the scheme at risk. Our seminar breaks down the new system into bite size chunks to help employers understand their responsibilities and give recruiters the confidence to advise clients and candidates."

This is the fourth such seminar from The Smooth Group, the previous three having proven very popular. Among those who attended November's event was Leon Aresti, Team Leader of permanent recruitment at Pulse Staffing. Leon
said: I thought the seminar was excellent. The presentation was informative and straightforward and makes light of a very confusing new work permit system."

January's seminar will cover all aspects of the PBS including the youth mobility scheme covered under Tier 5, Tier 1 (Highly Skilled Group) and Tier
2 (Skilled Group) as well as the consequences of non-compliance.

Hanneke Oosthuizen said: "In addition to our open seminars we offer bespoke workshops and consulting services to organisations struggling to cope with the new system. For many, adjusting to the new immigration rules is an ongoing process and we're pleased to be on hand to help."
The Smooth Group seminar will take place on 15 January 2009 9.30AM-1PM in Canary Wharf. Visit for more information
