NetworkersMSB TACKLES TRAINING WITH SARACENS RUGBY CLUB
Innovative training programme signals companys commitment to staff development
NetworkersMSB, the IT and telecoms recruitment consultancy, has teamed up with Saracens Rugby Club to create an Apprentice-style training day for its sales teams. The training day is part of the companys ongoing commitment to develop and motivate its staff and is the first in a series of practical training experiences. Employees were challenged with putting their office-based sales skills to the test on the streets of St. Albans to see who could generate the most revenue for Saracens Rugby Club through the sale of match tickets, Saracens shirts and memorabilia in just eight hours.
The overall aim of the exercise was to help transform rookie recruits into top sellers and give managers the necessary skills to sell as well as to manage staff. It was designed to mimic the sales environment at NetworkersMSB as closely as possible, with the usual period of getting to know the client research consisting of a trip to watch a Saracens match and meet the squad.
Divided into two teams, the NetworkersMSB employees resorted to various different sales techniques in their quest to win the challenge. These included offering commuters a free breakfast with every purchase, dressing up in rugby kit to attract attention, selling via eBay as well as using telesales. Targeted selling concentrated on groups with an interest in rugby such as students, the local police and fire brigade and local sports pubs.

It is also a great way to inspire new and original ideas. At a time when many companies are cutting back on their training and development, we are investing time and resources into ensuring that our people are the best they can be. These are challenging times and it is more important than ever that our sales people are firing on all cylinders and delivering for our clients.

We were pleasantly surprised at how many good ideas we were able to come up with when forced to think on our feet and quickly realized that whether youre selling job opportunities or rugby tickets, there is no substitute for understanding the product and who youre selling to.
