HCL Welcomes New NHS Procurement Practices

HCL Welcomes New NHS Procurement Practices
HCL, the UK's largest health and social care staffing company, said it welcomed the replacement of the NHS Purchase and Supply Agency (PASA) in favour of a more commercial system of purchasing goods and services in which NHS bodies will have to run themselves on a more commercial footing.
Under the new system, slated to come into effect within the next year, The Department of Health will get a new commercial office to replace PASA and PASA's functions will be taken on by a series of NHS Regional Support Units and the Office of Government Commerce Buying Solutions.

Kate Bleasdale, Executive Vice Chairman of HCL, said "This reform is well overdue. The Department of Health has publicly acknowledged that the health service has traditionally lagged behind the commercial challenges it faces, especially in the procurement of goods and services such as healthcare staff. Replacing PASA with more commercial entities will vastly improve the speed and efficiency with which staffing agencies like HCL can interact with commissioners, which will ultimately result in a better service for hospital managers, healthcare staff and, most importantly, patients."
