Money and meerkats make way for recruiters

Money and meerkats make way for recruiters and contractors on the UKs first freelance comparison website Launching this week after extensive development, offers a new, free-to-use recruitment and networking site to the Facebook generation of professional freelancers, contractors, recruiters, employers and recruitment services.
At the heart of the site is a rating system in which users evaluate each other on a variety of competency benchmarks. This leads not only to individual ratings but to real-time, dynamic league tables showing the cream of the crop at any time. League tables on the home page reveal the top ten contractors, top ten agents and so forth, and users can then drill down so that, for example, agents and employers can see the finest freelance secretaries in Scotland or the top techies in Tunbridge Wells, while freelancers can check the scores for agents, employers and service providers.
This offers not only some competitive fun as users strive to be the best in their markets but also allows parties to vet each other before getting in touch, and to provide anonymous feedback having worked together.
Rapidly acquiring the nickname Facebook for freelancers, the site is proving to offer far more than recruitment shopping. Its networking, its forums and its addictive internal messaging and profiling system are enabling busy contractors to keep up with friends and colleagues while keeping an eye on their ranking. Theyre also finding and vetting the services they themselves need, from accountants to the umbrella companies that help them steer their way through the perils of IR35 and PAYE. Meanwhile, recruiters are referring new contractors to the website as a source of information about payroll providers this helps to mitigate their Managed Service Company debt transfer risk a very real problem for todays recruitment professionals who should not themselves make recommendations in this area.
Of course, the site promotes jobs: freelancers can look for work and recruiters can look for contractors. But unlike virtually any other recruitment site, puts everyone in touch with each other for free: there are no registration fees, no charges when parties contact each other and no commission on contracts awarded.
Martin Smith, MD of, says: Our initial idea for came from our own experiences as contractors, recruiters and umbrella providers. We saw the need for a revolution in the way recruiters and contractors interact and so, after two years of building and testing, were launching the UKs first peer-rated comparison website with an online community of freelance service providers, embracing the full potential of web 2.0.
The early interest in has been phenomenal. For the first time, top performing freelance contractors can prove to their agents and clients that they really are best in class.
