More Adecco For Jacobs Holding?

According to Swiss weekly newspaper Handelszeitung the Swiss holding group Jacobs Holding aims to up its stake in staffing firm Adecco and chocolate maker Barry Callebaut. The group's chairman Andreas Jacobs was quoted as saying that Jacobs Holding, together with members of the Jacobs family, which owns nearly one fourth of Adecco and a majority stake in Barry Callebaut, the world's largest chocolate producer. 'Our goal is to hold and increase the stakes in the longer run,' Jacobs said. 'We see both stakes as a platform to grow in the respective markets and to consolidate,' he said. 'We do not plan to diversify by buying into other sectors.' Jacobs said both companies should grow organically as well as through acquisitions.

'We have clear growth goals,' he said.' For Adecco, the world's largest staffing company, the focus was on the segment of qualified professionals, he said. 'We have done some acquisitions there and we will continue to grow organically and through acquisitions,' he said. However, the decision to drop the bid for British rival Michael Page had proved wise given the firm's current valuation. Last year, Adecco failed in a bid to buy Michael Page, which would have boosted its position in the white-collar arena.
