Optimism, hope and opportunity - three words that we dont hear much of in the current market but according to Bill Boorman of the Bill Boorman Consultancy, communicating good news to your staff is absolutely key to motivation.
Its really important to find things to celebrate and to catch your staff doing things well says Bill who advises recruiters to finish each morning meeting by asking everyone to contribute one piece of good news.
This is one of the reasons I have set up the Good news (Recruiters) Group on Linked In and there has been a terrific response with almost 150 members already. Weve had great stories of high performing sectors including social care and education as well as HR within public sector. One recruiter has said that in construction, civils projects have surged by 39% since last year and that the number of IT contractors taken on by financial institutions has increased compared to previous months. he same recruiter also reported that demand for high level IT staff in the telecoms sector was proving a massive growth area. It has also been pointed out that one in ten of the Sunday Times Best Small companies to work for is a recruitment consultancy!
One of the big messages coming out of the group is that with more time to work on relationships (at both ends), real partnerships are developing. Getting the right people becomes even more critical in tough times. This has meant a move away from the CV race that has existed for the last 6 years, and much more back to offering a real consultative service.
