The start of the new financial year has brought evidence of growing confidence in the business community, according to one of the South Easts leading recruitment agencies.
Acorn Recruitment, which has offices across Kent and West Sussex, says April saw a major rise in the number of companies looking to take on new staff.
The agencys workload more than doubled last month compared with March and was up more than 40% on the same period last year.
We filled 97 jobs in April, which was far and away our best performance so far this year, said Managing Director Geoff Newman. In part the increase is down to our success as a business because we are undoubtedly increasing our market share but I believe it is also because confidence is beginning to come back into sections of the South Easts business community.
It is noticeable, for example, that companies are once again starting to take on permanent staff whereas a few months ago they only wanted temporary workers. Whereas businesses were adopting a wait and see policy until they had a clearer idea of where the economy was heading, they are now willing to commit to taking on new staff.
White collar jobs the type that we specialise in were among the first to be affected by the downturn and it could well be that what we are noticing is an early signal that the economy is beginning to recover and office workers are among the first to benefit.
We are seeing strong demand for good quality candidates right across our branch network and I have no reason to believe that this trend wont continue. In fact, we are recruiting more staff ourselves.
Acorn Recruitment has offices in Kings Hill, Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells, as well as Crawley in West Sussex.
The company supplies both temporary and permanent staff part-time or full-time and specialises in accountancy, legal and general commercial recruitment.
