RECESSION PROVING OPPORTUNITY FOR RECRUITMENT BUSINESSES

Two Yorkshire recruitment businesses are showing the country how to turn economic challenges into business opportunities and their success could help other business to innovate and succeed, despite the recession.

Business Link Yorkshire named m2r of Wakefield a Gold winner of its Bucking the Trend competition. Benchmark Recruit from Sheffield was named a Silver runner up.

When Business Link launched Bucking the Trend - a competition to find companies who had overcome a challenge or grasped an opportunity - nearly 60 Yorkshire businesses entered with examples of how they were using existing resources in new ways, finding new markets, managing risks and being flexible and speedy to stay ahead.

The prizes are mentoring from some of the regions top names in business - Business Ambassadors, appointed by Rosie Winterton Minister for Yorkshire and Humber. They volunteered their support to help the regions businesses weather and grow in challenging market conditions. Nimble Thompson, regional chairman of the Institute of Directors will mentor m2r for six months.

Helen West, chief executive of Business Link, said: Nearly 60 businesses entered this competition with really inspiring stories of innovation and rethinking businesses not just to survive in the current market, but for many making it their best year ever. We hope this will give others in our region ideas for their own businesses.

m2r reacted excellently to an opportunity. Recognising the risks they were diligent in their market research and understanding the market, maintaining their very high service. They were not prepared to ride out the storm but grasped the opportunity using existing resources and the support available.
