Scotland celebrates job creation

Over 4,000 Scottish jobs have been created and safeguarded since Scottish Development International started promoting the nation as a place to do business.

Following a 500 million investment, Stewart Hosie MP, announced that 2,000 high value jobs are among those which have benefited.

It comes as the Scottish government outlines its economic recovery programme, while the UK government has postponed its Next Steps: Building Britain's Future document.

Mr Hosie said: "These excellent results show the Scottish government is pursuing the right programme to promote recovery and protect jobs in Scotland from the current downturn. It is clear that Scotland has what it takes to create high value jobs and attract new investment."

The MP was critical of Gordon Brown's approach saying his document had been postponed due to a lack of ideas, and claimed that SNP success at the next general election is "essential" to stop Westminster cutting spending.

However jobseekers should continue to make every effort to get ahead on their own, asserts a spokesperson for ClickAJob.

"Yes it's reassuring to see new jobs being created," he says. "But places will still be limited and each position will be fiercely competitive."

"You still have to make yourself look better than anybody else to succeed, so make sure your qualifications and work experience stack up accordingly," he advises.

Earlier this month, a report by the Ernst & Young Scottish ITEM Club said that Scotland is in what will be seen as "a lost decade" for jobs, with unemployment rising from 157,000 to 230,000 at its peak in 2011.
