REC launches new law course for recruiters who are serious about standards
The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) is offering recruitment professionals a thorough grounding in all the legal issues affecting their businesses.
As part of its new Serious About Standards campaign, the REC has created an intensive Business Law Course designed to give recruiters a chance to get to grips with a raft of legal issues they could encounter in their workplace. The course is spread over two and a half days, but participants have a choice of whether they want to attend just one or all the sessions.
Fiona Coombe, the RECs Director of Professional Services, explained: The Employment Tribunals Service has just published figures showing a 30 per cent year on year increase in claims while the Employment Agencies Standards Inspectorate has even wider enforcement powers which include allowing prosecutions against recruitment companies to be heard in the Crown Court with the higher fines they can impose.
Against this background, it is vital that recruitment companies and their employees fully understand and comply with the law. This new course provides essential law training that is suitable for recruitment professionals at all levels from those wanting to start their own recruitment business, owners and managers of companies and experienced consultants who need to get up to date with the latest changes.
The course will tackle subjects such as Conduct Regulations, data protection and discrimination on the first day, followed on the second day by the rights of temporary workers and employees, protecting the business through employment policies and managing staff through sickness and poor performance. Day three will concentrate on supplying Limited Company Contractors.
The need for recruitment companies to be fully compliant with legal issues is one of the key themes of the RECs Serious About Standards campaign, to be launched on July 7th, which encourages members to demonstrate to clients their professional integrity and maintain the highest standards throughout, giving them the business edge over competitors especially during the current economic downturn.
