Everest Marathon Man

Everest Marathon Man

Cameron Brook, age 54, head of Cambridgeshire based construction recruitment agency Cameron Brook & Associates Ltd has won a place in the Everest Marathon the worlds highest and hardest marathon, which takes place on 4th December 2009.

Although hes completed several half marathons this will be his first attempt at the full marathon distance and as one of only 75 competitors he'll spend 2 weeks trekking to the start line just below base camp at 5200 metres (17,000 ft) and then "race" 26.2 miles hopefully inside 10 hours.

Participants endure temperatures ranging from minus 20 to plus 25 degrees centigrade, the likelihood of altitude sickness and stomach problems, not to mention living under canvas, negotiating narrow paths and rickety bridges whilst jostling with Yaks.

Not discouraged by the statement in the disclaimer "medical assistance may not be timely" and reports of a "controlled crash landing on a mountain airstrip he is looking forward to the life experience and having a great story to tell people. Hes also hoping to raise over 5000 for two charities.
