Recruiters have key role in careers guidance plans says REC

Children as young as ten-years-old are to receive careers guidance under a new Government plan.

Commenting on these proposals, Judith Armatage, the RECs Director of Professional Development, says

"The feedback from recruiters confirms that there is a need to enhance awareness of the world of work in order to inform education and career choices. Recruitment professionals are trained to provide effective guidance and support to those already in the labour market and looking for the best possible job. This expertise could also be used to provide initial guidance to young people and a number of recruiters are already playing a role within this context.

Enhancing guidance and support for jobseekers is one of the key themes of the recent Labour party and Conservative party conferences which both included a specific focus on employment issues.

The REC has been invited to a roundtable meeting in November with the Employment Minister, Jim Knight MP which will include discussions on guidance and support for jobseekers as well as the general priorities for tackling youth unemployment.
