CBI welfare report underlines opportunities for recruitment industry
The REC was invited to take part in this mornings launch of a new CBI report on Welfare Reform and Jobs attended by Employment Minister Jim Knight.
The report underlines the need for ongoing co-operation between public and private sectors and for linking services to help people into the workforce.
Discussions included a specific focus on the role of agencies and of temporary work in providing a route back into work.
Tom Hadley, the REC's Director of External Relations who attended the launch says: There is growing awareness within Government and key business organisations of the pivotal role that industry plays within the overall employment landscape in the UK. Ensuring that we are at the forefront of the debate on jobs and skills is all about enhancing this recognition as well as looking at potential new business opportunities for the industry.
"Tangible progress has already been made. In addition to the increased co-operation at a local level between agencies and Jobcentre Plus, we are starting to see recruiters working with private welfare organisations on specific schemes such as Flexible New Deal.
One of the specific recommendations in the report is to Recognise private and voluntary employment services providers as key stakeholders and important resources for knowledge and best practice in service delivery and the needs of employers in the localities in which they operate.  The REC is a member of the CBIs Welfare Reform Working Group.
