SPA Announces Chairman Appointment

The Service Providers Association (SPA) has announced the appointment of Stuart Davis as their new Chairman. SPA represents companies who provide employment, payroll, tax, accountancy, administrative support and advice to the professional freelance workforce.

Stuart will officially take up his Chairmanship in January 2010. SPA welcomes his appointment as a means of kick-starting their integrated 2010 campaign designed to highlight the central value of the professional freelance workforce to the UK economy and unique operations of the service provider industry to government, media and other key influencers. This latest development for the association follows SPAs recent launch of the first ever dedicated code of conduct for the professional freelance workforce.

In his role as Chairman, Stuart will act as the public face and mouthpiece of the SPA, relaying concerns, providing comment and highlighting issues which relate to the professional freelance workforce and the service provider industry through the engagement of key players within both media and government. Stuarts early experiences as an independent contractor within the flexible workforce through to his directorship of an international staffing agency make him ideally placed to assume a central role within SPA.

Stuart started his professional career in engineering before starting his own LTD company. He worked as an engineering contractor, subcontracting through Own LTD Co. to a diverse range of companies (British Nuclear Fuels, Fluor, Shell Chemicals U.K.) Stuart made the move into the staffing industry in 1987, as an assistant Contracts Manager for Roevin Technical People (now part of ADECCO). In 1990 he joined Fluor, to assist in the establishment, development and profitability of an autonomous recruitment agency (TRS Staffing Solutions Ltd.) which would provide full recruitment services to clients as well as their operations in the U.K and Holland. By 1999, Stuart was recruited by U.S based Day & Zimmerman Corporation to create and establish a U.K. based Technology staffing business. As Managing Director of Yoh Staffing Solutions, Stuart was responsible for all aspects of the business, from inception to the strategic sale of the $20m turnover operation.

Stuart Davis, Chairman of SPA comments: Im delighted to be taking up my new position as Chairman of SPA. 2010 presents a real opportunity for SPA to build upon the excellent work achieved throughout 2009, which saw the launch of a code of conduct welcomed by HMRC. First and foremost, we exist to give a voice to the professional freelance workforce, conveying the intricacies if its processes to key stakeholders and cementing its indispensable value to the UK economy. Looking forward, were keen to continue to increase our membership and cement our position as a body which can offer real insight into a burgeoning industry within a changing political landscape.
