A WIRRAL recruitment agency has been reaping the rewards of training its staff during the recession, after hitting its 5 million annual sales target.
Engineering, Construction and Supply Chain recruitment specialists, Russell Taylor Management Limited, based in Oxton, has been investing in the training of its 21 employees since the company was launched in 2005.
The training has been implemented with the support of providers Scientiam, with some funding from the Learning and Skills Council (LSC). The European Social Fund is also playing a significant role in Merseyside by investing in jobs and skills for the benefit of the local economy.
Peter Russell, Chairman of Russell Taylor Management Limited, said: For me, a successful company has to have a mixture of careful recruitment and appropriate, expert training and mentoring. As a recruitment company, weve got that side of our success well executed. From years of experience, we recognise the value of working really hard to recruit the right people and in making sure our training needs are identified and met so that we get that mixture for success just right. Thats why we signed the skills pledge and fully support the apprenticeship programme.
Peter assesses all prospective employees, and works to understand their learning styles and development needs as early as in the induction process. He sits down with each member of staff individually, at least once a quarter, to discuss their needs and to put development  plans in place.
Nicola Oleron, Administration Officer said: Since I joined Russell Taylor Management Limited, over two years ago as an apprentice, I have come a long way. The ongoing development plans and regular mentoring have really developed my skills and knowledge, and with several training qualifications now achieved, I can work in different areas of the business.
I am also looking forward to passing what I have learned on to other apprentices, as I have one shadowing me when they join.
The team at Russell Taylor Management Limited is setting its sights even higher this year, with a turnover target of 7 million.
The European Social Fund (ESF) is investing in jobs and skills and helping people in Merseyside to return to work.
Paul Tinsley, Partnership Director for the LSC in Greater Merseyside said: This is a great example of how training can benefit all aspects of a business motivated and highly skilled staff enjoy their roles and the company profits as a result.
I would encourage other businesses to invest the same amount of time and effort into their training programmes, as Russell Taylor Management Limited.
