Spherion Corp. has changed its name to SFN Group.
The Fort Lauderdale-based staffing services company, with offices in Greensboro, said its stock would continue to be offered on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol SFN.
"The SFN Group name clearly defines each of our businesses under one unified company. Our new name also more accurately reflects our evolution to a strategic workforce solutions provider, President and CEO Roy Krause said in a new release. As our breadth of services, the industries in which we operate and customer base all continue to expand, each of our specialized businesses will be better positioned to strengthen their individual brand equity, while benefiting from the operating efficiencies and world-class technology of a $1.8 billion parent company dedicated to service excellence.
In a deal worth $140 million, Spherion acquired Technisource in 2007 to better expand its presence in the information technology staffing market.
Earlier this month, Spherion said it would acquire Tatum LLC, an Atlanta-based executive services firm, for $46 million in cash and stock.
The SFN Group has more than 600 locations in the U.S. and Canada providing services to about 8,000 customers, according to a news release. Spherion's Greensboro office in 2008 placed the equivalent of 143 full-time positions and billed 300,000 hours, according to Business Journal research.
On Feb. 3, the company reported that revenue for 2009 fell to $1.7 billion from $2.2 billion in 2008. The company reported a net loss of $6.3 million in 2009, improved from a loss of $118.4 million in 2008.
