ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS THREATENING THE SECURITY OF THE UK

Eurocom CI Ltd a subsidiary of Carratu International PLC the risk migration and corporateinvestigation company warns of the UKs vulnerability due to the increasing number of illegal immigrants able to find work easily.

Paul Carratu, CEO of Carratu International stated, During the past twelve months we have seen a large increase in the number of illegal workers in our public transport, care homes, hotels and catering sectors. You only have to visit the airports and railway stations to understand and see the risks it is leaving the door open to the dangers of not knowing who is really working for you. Employers now face a logistical nightmare with the volume of immigrants applying for positions in low paid roles that will suit the migrant workforce. Unfortunately, these are the most expensive workers to screen, as it often involves checks in their home country as well as countries they have passed through. Any effort to reduce the cost will mean that the security checks are not layered, and without a system in place to cross check or to highlight any irregularities allows the illegal person to gain employment.

He added, It is estimated that there are over a million illegal immigrants in the UK and 90% are working by definition, illegally and those that are not are being supported by the state. The businesses most vulnerable are those offering low paid and hourly work with the problem exasperated as these jobs usually have a high staff turnover.

He concluded, With employers facing a fine of up to 10,000 per illegal employee we are surprised that so many are prepared to run the risk. They claim to have checked their documents, but with quality fake papers currently in circulation, this is not enough. For example, one company became very suspicious when a surprisingly high number of Nigerians started applying for specialist work on a rail network. It transpired that 40% of their Nigerian workers had produced fake passports with forged supporting documents to give them an edge on other applicants. As it stands now, it is only a matter of time before a terrorist infiltrates an organisation that allows them to work in large public area or sensitive transport location.
