HR embraces social media but needs more resources
82% of HR professionals now use social networking as part of their attraction strategy, but need more time and resources to dedicate to using this tool. Thats according to the latest research by talent management specialist Ochre House.
As part of its social media and employer branding webinar Ochre House asked attendees whether they had a dedicated resource for social media less than 30% did. Although the majority used social media, 45% admitted to not having a formal social media strategy in place and only 23% measured its return on investment.
When asked what barriers prevented them from using more social media for recruitment the most common answers were: time, resources and acceptance from management who favoured more traditional methods or believed tools like Twitter to be trivial.
Its really positive to see that so many organisations are seeing the value of social media and using it as part of their recruitment strategy says Helena Parry, Market Development Director at Ochre House. However its clear there is still some way to go in terms of really making it an integral part of the recruitment strategy with enough buy-in and resources for it to work to its full potential. With the continued growth and influence of social media this is definitely something companies need to be looking at in 2010.
