REC launches Office Professionals sector group
The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has officially launched its fifth biggest sector group Office Professionals dedicated to those working within the office environment. The group also brings together nearly 350 recruitment firms who place candidates into all manner of business support roles.
The formation of the sector group comes as a result of months of research and preparation. At the meeting, Jo Edwards, the groups chair unveiled a detailed research guide into the Office Professionals sector containing an overview of all aspects of working within the office space.
Commenting on the launch of the research guide, Jo Edwards said:
A comprehensive guide into working in the office space has never been produced before. This excellent and timely research will be instrumental in assisting agencies to understand the structure of their marketplace and to develop insightful and effective business plans.
The formation of the group is also timely given that the office/secretarial sector is leading the recruitment industry out of the recession. In the last few weeks, the REC Report on Jobs published by the REC and KPMG showed that clerical/secretarial roles had increased at the fastest rate compared to all other job categories.
Commenting on the figures, Jo Edwards said:
These results clearly show that employer confidence is increasing: Out of the eight categories of permanent recruitment, Clerical/Secretarial positions rose at the sharpest pace, now ranked as the fastest growing category compared to this time last year.
The results clearly indicate the significance which organisations are attributing to office support staff as they emerge out of recession.
Also at the launch was leading public relations firm Media Matters whose social media expert, Karen McNulty gave a presentation on its effective use.
Commenting on social media, McNulty said
Online marketing, including social media, is an increasingly valuable tool in the recruitment industry. While some consultants are actively using it to engage with wider audiences, others have yet to seriously consider it.
The sector group meeting was the perfect arena to give members an insight into the most useful and effective tools currently available and to demonstrate why social media should form a fundamental part of future marketing strategies.
The meeting is just the first of a series of events that the REC Office Professionals Group is staging, the aim being to bring together all recruiters operating within this sector to lobby, champion best practice, network, share knowledge and develop the reputation and professionalism of their specialist market in an informal atmosphere.
